Tamilnadu Athlete Gomathi wins first gold for India in Asian Athletics Championships 2019

On the second day of Asian Athletics Championships, Unheralded half miler Gomathi Marimuthu and shot putter Tejinderpal Singh Toor wins a gold medal each for india.
After three silver and five bronze medals in Asian Athletics Championships, the 30-year old Gomathi win the India's first gold medal.
In women's 800m race, Gomathi clocked a personal best time of 2 minute 02.70 seconds, finished ahead of Wang Chunyu of China (2:02.96) and Margarita Mukasheva of Kazakhstan to win the India's first gold medal.
After the race, Gomathi said, "Did not realise till I crossed the finish line that I have won a gold medal. Last 150m was a very tight race".
Gomathi was seventh in the Asian Championship in 2013 and fourth in 2015 made her final push in the last 100m, edging past the Chinese athlete at the tape. Then she had suffered from a groin injury in 2016 and after a two-year break she could compete at the top level.
Asian Games champion Tajinder Pal Singh Toor winning the top spot in the men's shot put with a season's best throw of 20.22 metres.
Tejinderpal Singh Toor said, "Started well but lost rhythm in between. A throw beyond 21 metres is the target. Will be happy if that comes at Worlds".
