Zomato tests drone delivery
Krish Mohan Jun 17, 2019 17:29 ISTZomato has successfully tested food delivery by drone. In a blog post, founder Deepinder Goyal said the company's hybrid drone covered "5 km in about 10 minutes" with a payload of 5 kg. The test may eventually pave the way for faster meal deliveries through densely populated routes. But the foodtech unicorn may not be able to immediately commercialise aerial services as drones still fall in the gray area when it comes to government policy. Zomato had acquired drone manufacturer TechEagle last year.
Assuming the regulations for Drone Delivery passes, the biggest relief with the news will be for road users. The rashest drivers on road seem to be the Food Delivery guys. With their prominent Red T-shirts it is hard to spot them as well. Drones could make roads safer for everyone, reduce traffic (on roads) and thus even reduce carbon footprint (if drones use solar cells). But how well the Indian infrastructure is prepared, only time will tell, based on the number of drone - objects and drone - drone collisions. Increased drone usage and exploding food delivery economy in India will bring scale benefits to use these drones. But will the employees in this Food Delivery gig economy be trained and re-employed to control the drones, if drones become the main delivery executives?
Currently, Now in India these companies play vital role in giving the employment opportunities. Many Young graduated and fresher's (and even college students does this job as part time) taking this job for their livelihood. Nobody can deny this - it is boon to the jobseekers. Should congratulate Zomato for their endeavours.
