Dinesh maheshwari and Sanjeev khanna were appointed in supreme court

President Ram nath kovind appointed two judges in the supreme court. Now, 28 judges are there in supreme court. But still 3 vacancies are there. 

Dinesh maheshwari(Chief justice of karnataka high court)  and Sanjeev khanna( Justice of delhi high court) were appointed as judges of supreme court. They were selected by the SC-Collegium. 

Collegium is a five member panel,  headed by chief justice of india and the other four members are senior most judges of supreme court. They are Chief justice of india Ranjan gogoi,  justice madan B Lokur,  AK Sikri,  SA Bobde and NV Ramana. Based on majority of votes,  they recommended the names for appointment. 

On dec 12, 2018 they decided the names.  But justice B Lokur retired on 31st dec. So the new collegium was formed. After that justice Arun mishra was a new member. Then their decision was changed. 

Instead of Pradeep nandrajog(chief justice of Rajasthan high court) and Rajendra menon(chief justice of Delhi high court)  the collegium selected justice Sanjeev khanna(delhi high court)  and chief justice Dinesh maheshwari(karnataka high court). After that,  this recommendation list were sent to president for approval.

Former justice of delhi high court Kailash Gambhir wrote a letter to president to said his objection of these recommendations list. Because, many senoir judges are there but Sanjeev khanna(justice of delhi high court) was a junior judge. Instead of selecting senior judges,  the collegium were selected the junior judges. 

Following that the supreme court justice Sanjay kishan kaul also wrote a letter to chief justice of india Ranjan gogoi to said his objection. 

But the collegium said that they were selected the judges based on merit and integrity. Now president also appointed Dinesh maheshwari(CJ of karnataka high court) and Sanjeev khanna(justice of delhi high court) as judges of supreme court.
