Tamil Nadu government appoints new Chief Secretary and DGP

On Saturday, K Shanmugam has been appointed as new Chief Secretary while JK Tripathy has been appointed as DGP (law and order) of Tamil Nadu.
According to the order, "K Shanmugam was a Additional Chief Secretary in Finance Department is now appointed as Chief Secretary, while JK Tripathy who was the DGP of the Uniform Services Recruitment Board is now appointed as the Director General of Police (DGP) and Head of Police Force".
K Shanmugam, an 1985 batch IAS officer, from Salem, was appointed as the Secretary of Finance in 2010. He handled the State finances in difficult times, helping prepare nine budgets and two interim budgets.
K Shanmugam will replace Girija Vaidyanthan who retires on June 30.
JK Tripathy, who hails from Odisha, belongs to the 1985 IPS batch. He was selected for the top post by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami from a short-list made by the Union Public Service Commission. He has an MPhil from JNU and has served as Superintendent of Police in nine districts. He was Commissioner of Police and DIG, Tiruchy.
