Sushil Chandra appointed as new Election Commissioner

On Thursday, CBDT Chairman Sushil Chandra was appointed as new Election Commissioner ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

Now, the three member poll panel are Chief Election Commissioner- Sunil Arora and two other election commissioners are Ashok Lavasa and Sushil Chandra.

On Thursday, Government order issued said, "In pursuance of clause (2) of Article 324 of the Constitution, the President is pleased to appoint Sushil Chandra, former IRS (IT) -1980 officer as the Election Commissioner with effect from the date he assumes the office".

Sushil Chandra is an Indian Institute of Technology graduate and a 1980 batch officer of the Indian Revenue Service (IRS). He currently serving as a chairman of CBDT till May 2019. 

Sushil Chandra is the second IRS officer after T. S. Krishnamurthy to be appointed as Election Commissioner. Where T. S. Krishnamurthy was a chief election commissioner in 2004.
