On Saturday, PM-led panel was appointed Rishi Kumar Shukla as new CBI director for a fixed tenure of two years. He has been appointed in place of Alok verma.
Alok verma who was sacked from the post of CBI director on january 10. After verma sacked from CBI, M Nageswara Rao has been working as the interim CBI director.
Rishi Kumar Shukla, a 1983-batch IPS officer. At present, he is a chairman of Madhya Pradesh Police Housing Corporation in Bhopal. Recently, he was transferred from the post of Director General of Madhya Pradesh Police to the police housing corporation.
PM-led panel meetings were held on january 24 and february 1 for to select new CBI director.
Second meeting on Friday was held at the Prime Minister's residence that lasted for over an hour and were attended by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and Congress MP Mallikarjun Kharge, who is the largest opposition party leader in lok sabha.
During that meeting, Shukla's name was shortlisted by ignoring the objections raised by congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge.
The Supreme Court asked the Centre to immediately appoint a CBI director because CBI director post is sensitive and important so it is not good to keep an interim director for long time.
