Prayagraj Ardh Kumbh Mela 2019 starts from jan 15 to march 04, 2019

Kumbh mela was the world's biggest religious festival. Three types of kumbh mela are there

1) The Maha kumbh mela(occurs every 144 years) 

2)Kumbh mela or Purna kumbh mela(occurs every twelve years) 

3)Ardh kumbh mela(occurs every six years) 

History of kumbh mela: 

 Lord vishnu dropped amrita at four places of prayagraj, haridwar, ujjain and nashik. These four places are the sites of kumbh mela. But, Ardh kumbh mela was only held in prayagraj and haridwar. 

Kumbh mela was held on 2013. After six years, now the ardh kumbh mela 2019 will take place in prayagraj. This festival takes place at the confluence of three sacred rivers of ganga, yamuna and saraswati. 

People believed that their sin were removed by taking a bath in this holy river on this festival time.  The first bath will take by saint at 3 AM. After that only common people will take a bath.

1st shahi snan(makar sankranti)  -  15 jan, 2019

Paush purnima -  21 jan, 2019

2nd shahi snan(mauni amavasya) -  04 feb, 2019

3rd shahi snan(basant panchami) - 10 feb, 2019

Maghi poornima - 19 feb, 2019 

Maha shivratri - 04 march, 2019
