On Wednesday, a joint venture firm under the Union power ministry of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to build 100 charging stations for e-vehicles (EVs) in the city over 10 years.
On World Environment Day, the MoU was signed between EESL and AMC in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.
The release said that the EESL will work with the AMC to "fast-track adoption of e-mobility in Ahmedabad by installing around 100 public charging stations and promoting electric vehicles (EVs) on rental and purchase basis".
A press release said, "EESL will invest for services, operation and also maintenance of public charging infrastructure. The AMC will provide space for setting up stations and provide power connection. EESL has signed agreements with various PSUs, government departments, State Governments of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Telangana".
The AMC is expected with these EVs to save over 4.46 tonnes of CO2 emissions per e-car per year. Under EESL's EV programme, it has completed tender processes to procure 10,000 e-cars. Till date, 1,408 e-cars have been deployed across the country and are under registration.
