Madurai Bench of Madras High Court Directs Centre To Ban Tik Tok App
Jack Apr 04, 2019 11:18 ISTOn Wednesday, The Madurai bench of the Madras high court asked the central government to ban the downloading of Chinese video app Tik Tok as an interim measure.
TikTok app is a social video app owned by Beijing-based ByteDance Co.
Muthu Kumar, Madurai-based senior lawyer-cum-social activist has filed a petition against app. He requested the court to issue a direct ban on Tik Tok app because it Citing pornography, cultural degradation, suicides.
The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court has been hearing a petition against the app. The bench of Justice N Kirubakaran and Justice SS Sundar said that the TikTok app was dangerous for children and were vulnerable to exposure to sexual predators. The court asked the government to ban on downloading the Tik Tok app.
Tik Tok was an "Inappropriate" content and it was a "dangerous aspect" and "there is a possibility of the children contacting strangers directly", the court said in an order.
Also the judges has directed the media to stop showcasing Tik Tok videos and have also directed the indian Government to prevent the children, if would enact a law of Children's Online Privacy Protection Act in the United States.
