Ashwani Lohani appointed as Air India Chief for second time
Jack Feb 13, 2019 21:01 ISTOn Wednesday, Ashwani Lohani was appointed as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Air India for second time.
The department of personnel and training said, "The appointments committee of the cabinet has approved the appointment of Ashwani Lohani to the post of chairman and managing director of Air India on contract basis for one year or until further orders".
Ashwani Lohani's first tenure in Air India was from August 2015 to August 2017. After that Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME) was appointed Ashwani Lohani as Railway Board Chairman in August 2017 and retired in December 2018. Previously, He also headed ITDC and Rail Museum in New Delhi.
When he appointed as Railway Board Chairman, Lohani's first decisions was to ban gifts and ceremonial welcomes and farewells. He was also the man behind the country's fastest train 'Train 18' that will have its inaugural run from Delhi to Varanasi on February 15. He was also a part of the team that worked on the Mumbai- Ahmedabad bullet train project.
In both Railways and Air India using whatsapp groups, he was able to bridge the gap between his office and employees, say those who have worked with him.
