Amazon sued over child privacy

Amazon may be recording kids who use Alexa devices without their consent, according to lawsuits launched this week. A federal complaint says Amazon saves "a permanent recording of the user's voice," regardless of who is speaking. The suits, filed on behalf of two children in California and Washington, allege the lack of consent breaks the recording laws of at least eight states. Earlier this year, advocates asked the Federal Trade Commission to investigate whether Alexa violates children's privacy laws, alleging the tech giant is holding onto kids' personal information longer than is reasonably necessary.
And in California so, from a data privacy perspective, the outcome should be interesting. "Parents sue Amazon for letting Alexa record children."
For most kids, parents have to agree with the purchase of their devices. In many cases, they provide the money or the means by which they get the money. Even more true, parents have to agree to allow the use of devices in their house; their house their rules. If this is how devices operate then parents can either allow or not allow their children to use them. That part is simple. The only exception is those items that cause physical harm or put kids in harm's way but there are laws to protect us in those cases. This is just my take on it.
